James Anfield

Jim Anfield is a Principal and Healthcare Practice Lead at 2nd Watch, a premier cloud and data & analytics technology consulting firm where he is focused on leading and building out the firm’s healthcare vertical. His current clients are a broad healthcare spectrum of payers, providers, TPAs, healthcare business service providers, and healthcare tech. Previously, he worked at several healthcare startups out of MATTER (Chicago healthcare startup incubator) as CTO and/or CFO in the areas of patient surgical safety, social determinants of health, telehealth, private exchange solutions, HIPAA compliance, women’s health, patient engagement, care coordination, mobile apps, and other health information/data new ventures. He was also recruited to be the VP of IT at Land of Lincoln Health, the Affordable Care Act health insurance co-op startup which served the state of Illinois. Prior, Jim worked for KPMG in their CIO Advisory Practice for various major health insurance payers including healthcare and life science clients. Jim’s entrée into healthcare was almost twenty years ago when he joined Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC aka Blue Cross Blue Shield IL/TX/MT/OK/NM) as their Senior Director, Health Information Technology. At HCSC, he led efforts in new ventures, IT strategy, product development, and strategic partnerships focusing on population health, healthcare interoperability, Type 2 diabetes management, ACO/medical home value-based care models, digital weight loss programs, and provider network digital connectivity strategy. Jim’s early experience included corporate finance, strategy, and M&A roles in several F500 companies including United Airlines, International Mineral and Chemical Corporation, ITW, Westinghouse Electric, and Dun & Bradstreet. Jim is an author, university guest lecturer, and conference speaker and holds an MS in computer science from Northern Illinois University, an MBA in finance from the Kellstadt graduate school of business at DePaul University, and a BS degree in general engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
